COVID-19 grants for artists
These working grants are intended for professional artists to alleviate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 grants are intended to support the artistic work of the applicant.
A professional artist is one who creates, performs or interprets art as their primary or secondary occupation. A professional artist has an education in a specific field of the arts or otherwise acquired professional expertise in the arts.
This support is not available to applicants:
- who have been granted a state artist grant for 2022
- who have been granted other grant for 2022 awarded for a period of at least one year
- who have previously been awarded a supplementary state artist pension or who will receive a supplementary state artist pension as of 2022
- who are full-time students, or who have a full-time paid job (100% working hours) during the grant period.
The amount of each grant is 12,000 euros, which is intended to support a single six-month period of work during the period 1.4.–31.12.2022.
The grant includes statutory pension and accident insurance issued by the Farmers’ Social Insurance Institution Mela. The grant recipient is obligated to pay the statutory pension insurance contribution in accordance with the applicable Farmers’ Pensions Act (MYEL), which covers also grant recipients. The premium percentage rate is 13–25 % of the total amount of the grant. The amount of the insurance premium is based on the recipient’s age and computational annual earnings, as stipulated in the insurance decision. As a general rule, an unemployment allowance or labour market subsidy is not paid during the grant period. Grant recipients should check with the payer of such benefits (unemployment fund or Kela).
Grants awarded for artistic activities are tax free. (Income Tax Act, Section 82).
All applicants shall receive written notification of the decision by 15 March 2022.

Special subsidies for communities to alleviate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic
These subsidies are intended for communities in the arts and culture sector to alleviate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and support the employment of professional artists. This call for applications is open to registered associations, cooperatives, companies, private traders and foundations.
These subsidies are intended to support the operations of communities and projects to develop their operations. These subsidies are discretionary.
The minimum amount of each subsidy 20,000 euros. Subsidies are not awarded to cover the costs of a community’s regular operations. The subsidy may be used to cover 100 % of the eligible costs of the project. The subsidy must be used in 2022.
The subsidy may be used for the following purposes, for example:
- For projects or experiments that employ professional artists
- For stabilising operations after changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic
- For strengthening the expertise of the community
- For promoting international operations
- For promoting sales and marketing
These subsidies represent de minimis aid in accordance with Commission Regulation (EU) No 1407/2013. According to the EU regulation, a company may receive de minimis aid of up to EUR 200,000 during the current and the previous two tax years. The company itself must monitor the amount of de minimis aid received and declare it when applying for new aid, so that the total amount of de minimis aid awarded by different authorities does not exceed the maximum permissible aid during the current and the previous two tax years.
Grounds for not awarding the subsidy:
- If the application arrives after the application deadline. Applications must be received by Taike by 4:00pm on the last day of the application period.
- If the application is incomplete and the required information has not been supplied before the end of the application period.
- If the applicant has not submitted written clarification of support previously awarded by Taike before the given deadline.
All applicants shall receive written notification of the decision by 31 March 2022.
