Artist Residences
The members of the Finnish Musicians’ Union have two artist residences at their disposal: Fulham in London and Villa Vikan residence in Raasepori.
The residences are furnished with work-related equipment. The members can use the residences for practising, other work or even promotional purposes.
Members of the Union and family members are welcome to travel to the residency with the applicant. Other people are also welcome to Villa Vikan. Villa Vikan’s cabin no. 2 can also accommodate pets, but they are not allowed in the other buildings. Pets are not allowed in the London residence.
Residency application period
The application period for the Finnish Musicians’ Union’s residency weeks 27–53 of 2026 ended on the 16th of March 2026 London and Villa Vikan residencies were open for application.
Only applications received during the application period will be included in the draw. Applicants will be notified of the results of the draw by email during April.
Application periods
The Finnish Musicians’ Union’s residencies are open for applications two times a year:
- Weeks 1–26 of the first half of the year are open for applications during the weeks 36–37
- Weeks 27–52 of the second half of the year are open for applications during the weeks 10–11

London residence
The London residence is a furnished and well-equipped apartment in the Fulham district in the western part of London at 2 Knivet Road. The floor area of the four-storey apartment is approximately 150 square metres.
There are no available residency weeks in the London residence.
Apartment and its furnishing
The residence is a furnished and well-equipped apartment in the Fulham district in the western part of London at 2 Knivet Road. With the renovation completed at the end of 2015, the residence now has one extra bedroom allowing larger groups to stay there. The floor area is approximately 150 square metres on four floors. Downstairs, there is a living room and a dining room/kitchen. On the mid-floor, there is an entrance hall, two bedrooms and a bathroom/toilet. Upstairs, there is a toilet/shower and two bedrooms, one with a work corner. From the ground floor, you can access the back yard where there is a sauna.
The downstairs living room has a grand piano equipped with headphones, so you can play it, for instance, during the night. The top floor has a work space with electronic equipment for music work, such as a MIDI/USB keyboard, a 27-inch computer display, a mixer and Genelec powered speakers. Users need to bring their own laptop with them.
The living room has a large flat-screen TV and a 5.1 sound system. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, toaster, dishwasher and basin and cooking utensils. There is also a washer dryer downstairs.
You can play and practise in a manner that is suitable in an apartment building, that is, within reason and taking neighbours into account.
The London residence is non-accessible.
Services
In the immediate vicinity of the apartment, there is a full range of services, such as restaurants, a pharmacy, a bank, a launderette, a metro station (at a walking distance of about 5 minutes), shopping facilities, etc.
Rental
The residencies are open for application two times a year during the announced application periods via an application form. The applicant must be a member of the Finnish Musicians’ Union, and membership must have lasted for at least three months by the start of the residency period. This is also required for any other members of the Finnish Musicians’ Union who is joining the applicant.
As a rule, the rental period is one week, from Monday to Monday. This means, for example, that you have to pay a full week’s rent even if you only spend four days at the residence.
Prices
The weekly rent for the London residence is EUR 570 including one set of linen (bed linen and towel) and a clean-up once a week on Monday afternoon. Additional guests (with additional linen) cost EUR 50 each (for example, a week for 4 persons would cost EUR 570 + EUR 150 = EUR 720).
The linen fee is charged from each person travelling with the applicant, regardless of age or whether they bring their own linen – the policy is the same for all the residencies of the Union.
The rental price includes one sauna heating. For each following the price is EUR 8 per heating. The use of the sauna must be reported to the association office at the end of the rental period.
Villa Vikan
Villa Vikan’s rental properties include an impressive main building located on a cape surrounded by a lake and two log cabins near the shore.

Last-minute departure
When there are two weeks or less until the start of the rental period, you can book available residence weeks at a discount of EUR 100. Last-minute weeks are awarded on a first-come first-served basis.

Rental locations and their furnishing
Villa Vikan became available for artists at the beginning of July 2014 as a result of donations made to the Residence Fund by the Finnish Music Foundation, an organisation established by Teosto and Gramex. The beautiful villa built by Martin Wegelius at the end of the 19th century has been completely renovated for the use of professional musicians, composers and music authors. In addition to the main building, there are two log cabins available for renting. The Finnish Music Foundation owns the rental locations which can be rented through the Finnish Musicians’ Union, the Elvis Association and the Society of Finnish Composers.
The rental facilities are equipped for work purposes. In the main building, there is a Steinway grand piano, an electric keyboard, recording cabling with wall sockets, a monitoring system and AV equipment. The log cabins also have a work space equipped for electronic music work with keyboards and monitors. For more information on the equipment available in the buildings, see the rental guide. Vikan is located in Raasepori in the village of Persböle by the Långträsket lake at Vikan 30-31, Persböle, 10420 Pohjankuru. Vikan is approximately 10 kilometres away from Fiskars and the centre of Karjaa. Vikan is at a distance of 93 kilometres from Helsinki and 115 kilometres from Turku.

Each of the Villa Vikan buildings can be rented separately, but a bigger party can also rent more buildings at the same time. Main building has four bedrooms and can accommodate 8 people at most, and both cabins can accommodate four people. All buildings are equipped with saunas. Only cabin 2 can accommodate pets, so pets aren’t allowed in other buildings.
As a rule, the rental period is one week from Monday to Monday. Rental period means, for example, that you have to pay a full week’s rent even if you only spend four days at the residence.
Tenants can arrive at earliest on Monday at 4pm and they are to leave at latest on Monday at 10am. Residences are cleaned on Mondays between 10am and 4pm.

*EUR 39 for each family member or member of an organisation renting Vikan; EUR 90 for others.
