The Finnish Musicians’ Union’s residency application is open until the 15th of September 10 am

The application period for the Finnish Musicians’ Union’s residency weeks 1–26 of 2026 is open until Monday 15.9.2025 at 10am.

Finnish Musicians’ Union members can apply for two artist residencies: one in Fulham, London, and one at Villa Vikan. The residencies are suitable for working, as well as for promotion and networking purposes.

Berlin residency is ending

The Berlin residency will no longer be available starting in 2026 and therefore cannot be applied for in the upcoming residency application. The owner of the residency, the `Esittävän säveltaiteen edistämissäätiö´ Foundation (ESES), has decided to sell the property.

The residencies are open for application two times a year:

  • Weeks 1–26 of the first half of the year are open for applications during the weeks 36–37
  • Weeks 27–52 of the second half of the year are open for applications during the weeks 10–11

The residencies are open for application the same time every year.

Application conditions

The applicant must be a member of the Musicians’ Union, and membership must have lasted for at least three months by the start of the residency period. This is also required for any other members of the Musicians’ Union who is joining the applicant. Members of the Union and family members are welcome to travel to the London residency with the applicant. Other people are also welcome to Villa Vikan.

If the applicant or any other member joining the applicant has payment arrears on the date of the application, the application will not be included in the draw. The case is the same with unpaid membership fees.

Application

The residencies are open for application only during the announced application periods via the application form.

The following information is asked in the form:

  • contact information and membership number
  • has the applicant visited the Musicians’ Union’s residencies during the last three years
  • which residencies the applicant is applying for
  • when does the applicant wish to visit the residencies
  • the number of people traveling with the applicant

The applicant may request several weeks and if the applicant wishes, put the weeks in order; if the first week requested is no longer available, the applicant will be granted the next available week.

Draw

The draw will take place after the application period ends. Applicants will be informed of the result of the draw via email.

Rental period and invoicing

The rental period is one week from Monday to Monday. This means, for example, that you have to pay a full week’s rent even if you only spend four days at the residence. The booking is binding once the rent has been paid. Linen costs for accompanying persons will be invoiced after the return of the rental agreement. The names of the accompanying family members and the members of the Finnish Musicians’ Union should be stated in the rental agreement.
