The Chairperson of the Finnish Musicians’ Union, Mia Kari, is responsible for the Union’s day-to-day operations, administration, and human resources.
Her duties include preparing and chairing Board meetings, implementing the Board’s decisions, and representing the Union in stakeholder relations and negotiations. Together with the staff, Mia coordinates the Union’s overall activities and ensures the implementation of its strategy.
For Mia, the meaningfulness of her work arises from the combination of advocacy and societal influence.
“I am motivated by the opportunity to improve musicians’ working conditions and to help ensure that performers of music have a respected position and good working opportunities in Finnish society. I am also inspired by musicians’ expertise, dedication, and the diversity of their work. The fact that both orchestral musicians and freelance musicians are represented within the same union offers a broad perspective on different genres and job roles in the field, as well as a strong foundation for working together to advance musicians’ shared interests. The constant transformation of the music sector and the new opportunities it brings also encourage the continued development of the Union’s activities and the structures of the field.”
Mia can be contacted regarding all matters related to the activities of the Finnish Musicians’ Union and the position of music performers. In addition to her role as Chairperson, she holds several positions of trust within the music sector, including Vice Chair of the Board of Gramex.
