Rental locations and their furnishing
Villa Vikan became available for artists at the beginning of July 2014 as a result of donations made to the Residence Fund by the Finnish Music Foundation, an organisation established by Teosto and Gramex. The beautiful villa built by Martin Wegelius at the end of the 19th century has now been completely renovated for the use of professional musicians, composers and music authors. In addition to the main building, there are two log cabins available for renting. The Finnish Music Foundation owns the rental locations which can be rented through the Musicians’ Union, the Elvis Association and the Society of Finnish Composers.
The rental facilities are equipped for work purposes. In the main building, there is a Steinway grand piano, an electric keyboard, recording cabling with wall sockets, a monitoring system and AV equipment. The log cabins also have a work space equipped for electronic music work with keyboards and monitors. For more information on the equipment available in the buildings, see the rental guide.
Vikan is located in Raasepori in the village of Persböle by the Långträsket lake at Vikan 30-31, Persböle, 10420 Pohjankuru. Vikan is approximately 10 kilometres away from Fiskars and the centre of Karjaa. Vikan is at a distance of 93 kilometres from Helsinki and 115 kilometres from Turku.
The residence weeks are drawn every six months, and people who have been members of the Musicians’ Union for at least six months by that time can participate in the draw.
Each rental location is separately available for renting, but a larger group may rent more than one building at a time if needed. The main building has four bedrooms and a maximum of eight beds, and each of the log cabins can accommodate up to four people. Each building has a sauna. Linen, cleaning, Internet access and high quality facilities are included in the service. From week 27/2017 onwards, cabin no. 2 can also accommodate pets, but they are not allowed in the other buildings.
As a rule, the rental period is one week, from Monday to Monday. This means, for example, that you have to pay a full week’s rent even if you only spend four days at the residence.
The weekly rent for the main building is EUR 450 including one set of linen (bed linen and towel) and a clean-up once a week on Monday afternoon. Additional guests (with additional linen) cost EUR 30/80* each.
