Finnish Musicians Union opened its artist residence in Berlin in January 2009.

Who is it for?

For union members, whose membership has lasted a minimum of six months, and accompanying family members. The residence will accommodate 7 persons. There are two actual bedrooms with beds for five.

For how long?

The rental period is 1-2 weeks. The residence is fully booked for 2012. The rental unit is one week from Monday 15:00 to Monday 12:00. If you use the residence, for example, only four days, a full week’s rent must be paid.

What does it cost?

Weekly rent is 250 euros for the first person, including bed linen and towels and cleaning once a week on Mondays at 12:00-15:00. The rent for the following persons is 20 euros each, including bed linen and towels. The rent is paid in advance to the union, thus confirming the booking.

Begin the heading of the message with the word “Residenssi” in order to ensure fluent processing. Include the desired rental period and the names of the guests. Please indicate for each of the guests to be accommodated whether he/she is a union member or a family member.

What is the residence like?

The residence is a well-furnished apartment in a block of flats in Kreuzberg (west) at Gneisenaustrasse 113. The area of the apartment is approximately 150 square meters in two floors connected by a spiral staircase. Upstairs there is a large living room/working space and a dining room, a kitchen and a bahtroom/wc. Downstairs there is another living room/working space, two bedrooms and a bathroom/wc.

In the upstairs living room there is a “silent” grand piano, which means it can be played both normally (acoustically) and silently using headphones for example late in the evening. Downstairs there is an electronic workspace with a MIDI keyboard, 24 inch LCD screen and active speakers. The user will need to bring a laptop of his/her own. There is a mini laptop for Internet browsing etc. available in the residence.

In the upstairs living room there is a large plasma TV with a 5.1 sound system. There is also a plasma TV downstairs. In the kitchen there is a fridge/freezer, coffee machine, toaster, dishwasher, tableware and a basic cooking kit. Downstairs there is a washing machine that is capable of drying the laundry.

In the residence you can play and practise like in a normal apartment, which means moderately and taking neighbours into consideration.
