Applications for both residences may only be submitted during the announced application period. Applications received outside that period will not be included in the draw. After the application period is over, the draws for both locations are carried out separately. In your application message, you should indicate as many suitable weeks as possible. You can apply for both locations, but you may only have one week. Therefore, you should indicate which location is primary to you. Otherwise, the first successful draw will remain in effect  and you will not be included in the second draw.

Priority is given to members who have not visited either one of the residences before. A concrete export project or equivalent in the country of destination will increase your chances of getting a residence week. Also, a simultaneous visit by more than one member of the Union improves your chances. In that case, a group with only Union members only need to submit one application. The same procedure is recommended for couples who are both members of the Union. Especially in the case of London, applications for larger groups – such as two musician families – are appreciated since there are four bedrooms.

A visit to the Villa Vikan residence in Raasepori has no effect on applications for residences abroad, and vice versa.

The members can use the residences for practising, other work or even promotional purposes. Since the residences are mainly intended for work purposes, you cannot bring guests apart from your family members. Pets are not allowed in the residences.

Both residences have a grand piano which can also be played with headphones. The equipment in the Berlin residence also includes an acoustic steel-string guitar and a bass guitar, and the equipment in London includes two acoustic guitars and a bass guitar. Actual band practices are not allowed in the residence, but a string quartet or other acoustic assembly can practise at a reasonable volume at suitable times of day.

In the future, the rental agreements will include a clause on possible decisions by authorities affecting the use of the residences.

Application conditions

On the date that the application is submitted, the applicant must have been a member of the Musicians’ Union for at least six months, and this is also required of any other members of the Musicians’ Union who join the applicant.

If the applicant or any other member joining the applicant has payment arrears on the date of the application, the application will not be included in the draw. The case is the same with unpaid membership fees.

Rental period and invoicing

The rental period is one week from Monday to Monday. This means, for example, that you have to pay a full week’s rent even if you only spend four days at the residence.

Invoicing takes place within a few weeks of the booking and the payment period is two weeks; the booking is binding once the rent has been paid.

Application

Applications are only accepted by email to sml@muusikkojenliitto.fi during the announced application period. You should title the email as “Berlin Residence 2018” or “London Residence 2018”.

You can apply for both residences separately, but you can only get one. If you apply for both, your applications should indicate which is your primary choice. In your email, you must indicate the names of people staying at the residence with you, and, for each person, whether he or she is a member of the Union or your family. You must also indicate whether you have visited a Union residence before.

The weeks to be applied for are indicated with a sequence number (1-53), not as dates. In your application, you can list several weeks in an order of priority; if the first week is no longer available, the applicant will be awarded the next available week.

Draw

Once the application period is over, the draws for both locations will be performed separately: the owner of the first ticket drawn will get the week that he or she has set as primary and each following person will get the first available week in an order of priority.

Each week is awarded to the winner of the draw, and each member is granted a rental period of one week. The result of the draw will be announced to the applicants in person.
